The TFM Favorite Fit Daddy: Malcolm Poole

Last month Team Fit Mommy we were super excited to  introduce you to our new feature, The TFM Favorite Fit Daddy!  Since the response was so great, now the first Friday of each month we will introduce you to a new dad who is living a lifestyle of active fitness and encouraging their families to do the same. Last month you met Edward and this month we are pleased to feature another dad who is living a fit life that others can emulate. Malcolm is an educator and an avid runner, who has loved track and field since his high school days. He is the father of a daughter and her biggest supporter and encourager on and off of the field of play. Malcolm shares great insight into fatherhood. Let him inspire you to be the best you can be daily.

Team Fit Mommy (TFM): How old are you? How many children do you have? How old?
Malcolm: I am 45 years old. I have a 12 year old daughter, Mikel.

TFM: Do you have a favorite sport? If so, what is it and why?
Malcolm:It is a tight running between football and track & field.

How does your favorite sport influence your active and fit lifestyle?
Malcolm: Track & field…..Running has been near and dear to me. It allows me to work muscles to build strength as well as a stress reliever that allows me to alleviate unwanted stress.

TFM: What type of meal plan, if any, do you follow to maintain your healthy lifestyle?
Malcolm: My eating habits are pretty good. I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and red meat is an essential to my diet. I have to have a steak occasionally for the protein. I don’t eat much junk food, maybe red velvet or sweet potato pie…….sometimes lol.

TFM: If you could have anything as a treat meal, what would it be?
Malcolm: A black and white milkshake is my kryptonite.

TFM: How many times per week do you work out? What do your workouts consist of?

Malcolm: I workout 5 days a week. Depending on the season, it could be 3 days cardio and 2 days lifting. Reverting back to my track days, I would work hard in the fall, taper off in the winter, build up in the spring, and taper off again in the summer.

TFM: How do you combine fitness and family?

Malcolm: My daughter and I will walk sometimes. Nothing intense but some great conversations have been had on those walks.

TFM: Is your daughter involved in organized sports? Which ones?

Malcolm: Mikel has begun dabbling with organized sports. Volleyball, soccer, and cheerleading are the sports she is participating in now. We have some other sports we will be investigating to narrow the choices by high school. We have to put together the best package possible; pops doesn’t have $250 K lol.

TFM: How do you encourage an active lifestyle for your family?
There is no sitting around at my house. We stay out as much as possible. We do a lot of walking. My daughter enjoys roller skating so the people at the rink are getting to know us well.

TFM: What advice would you give another dad who wants to live a fit life?

Malcolm: Nobody can be their dad like you can. Live a healthy life so that you can see them shine.

We know you are inspired by Malcolm and his love for his daughter and healthy living. Leave him a comment to congratulate him on his success.
How do you encourage a fit lifestyle for your family? Do you know another dad who is a healthy example for his family? Tell us about him and we may feature him as our next “Favorite Fit Daddy”!

  8. I was thinking about this last week…the majority of my FB followers and blog readers are female. And I don’t personally know a lot of men who are “in shape”. This was a nice perspective.

    • Thanks Wendy! The majority of my readers are women as well but I do have a small but faithful male following so I wanted to do something to say you are a valued part of ” The Team”! So often dad’s are not recognized for all they do.

  9. I love the no sitting around family approach! Being outdoors is a bonus 🙂
